Just as the weekend looms tantalizingly on the horizon, so does the next film in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Due out in July, the movie has generated a lot of buzz thanks to its surprising ending – though not that surprising, if you’ve read the books – and the fact that it will be available in IMAX 3-D.

But while we’re getting ready for Half-Blood Prince, Daniel Radcliffe and David Heyman, producer of the film franchise, are already thinking of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and how to split that lengthy climax into two interesting, stand-alone movies.

“We’ve played around with a couple of places,” explained Heyman, “And ultimately settled on a place that we think is very exciting and I think quite bold, in that it’s not necessarily where one might expect. You want to give a sense of completion, on one hand, but a sense that there’s another piece, more to come.”

Radcliffe, for his part, said that the breaking off point of the first film would bring a cliffhanger.

Now, murky though my memory of this novel is, *SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT*  I have a feeling that Heyman will cut off the first Deathly Hallows with the Death Eater scene at Luna Lovegood’s house. It has the perfect ambiance of foreboding and would set up the second movie and the hunt for the titular Deathly Hallows perfectly.
