Rachel McAdams seems quite reluctant to be a big star. A couple of years ago, after the release of The Notebook, Mean Girls and Red Eye, she could probably have had her pick of most female-lead films and comfortably become the next Reese Witherspoon. But she’s been focusing on small roles in big movies (the upcoming State of Play) or larger roles in smaller movies (Married Life), possibly looking to get a lot of acting experience in before people start judging her every move. Wise move. The forthcoming adaptation of The Time Traveller’s Wife could still shoot her into the big time, but her next will be a smaller picture called The Lucky Ones. The trailer for the film is up here and it’s looking pretty good and certainly different from what we’ve seen of the actress before. It stars McAdams, Tim Robbins and Michael Pena as three soldiers who are sent home from Iraq after suffering injury. The trio end up on a road trip after their flight is cancelled, getting to know each other a little better and realise that the America they’re return to is not the one they left. Pena is very much a rising star and one of the better actors to come from Hollywood in recent years despite not quite gaining the recognition he deserves, while we all know how good Robbins is even when he’s coasting!

The film marks quite a change for director Neil Burger, who we know for the sumptuous, and a touch ponderous, The Illusionist. So, what do you think?
