Where the heck did this film come from? With a (fantastic!) trailer that came out of nowhere, see it here, New Line is hoping to keep the momentum going with the first poster for Appaloosa. Western drama reteams Harris and Mortensen, who worked together on New Line’s A History of Violence. The story is adapted from Robert B. Parker’s novel of the same name, centered on a pair of friends hired to protect a lawless town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher. The arrival of an attractive widow disrupts their plans.

I don’t whether it is just seeing Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen back in the same frame together, but there is something about this poster for Appaloosa that screams kick-ass. Renee Zellweger wasn’t exactly necessary, but I guess something had to fill that gap. I’m a real sucker for this new wave of Westerns and we have seen great example after great example of them lately from the post modern variety in No Country For Old Men right down to the more ‘Traditional’ Western in 3; 10 To Yuma…they just a keep on coming!
