Hollywood’s top actress Angelina Jolie may soon be seen portraying the role of Catwoman in the next Batman film aka The Dark Knight sequel.

74-year-old actress Julie Newmar who made the feline vixen famous on the 60s TV series Batman told the New York Daily News: “My industry friends tell me [she] has made inquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman’s one true love. She’s tremendously popular with women because she’s both a heroine and a villainess. When you look at the staggering box office of this current film, which actress wouldn’t want to jump in?”

Now, following on from my article on where Nolan may take his Batman series after the huge success of The Dark Knight, it is viable that Catwoman may play some part in the next installment, what with their being both space for a villain (of sorts) and a new female part in particular following SPOILER Rachel Dawes demis in The Dark Knight). Jolie would seem the perfect choice as she both has the required star status and is an excellent actress to boot, arguably one of the best around.

At this point however anything like this news can be taken with a pinch of salt, its far too early for casting to be considered let alone which villains may appear. I’m sure in due course an actual announcement will be made as to a sequel and its expected release…i’m guessing at 2011 which would put it up against Spiderman 4, what an enticing prospect that is!

As ever more news as I get it.
