Here you can see the first set pictues to hit of Michael Mann’s upcoming crime saga Public Enemy. This is possibly one of the most eagerly awaited films for me, with Mann back behind the lens and an amazing ensemble cast this really could be something special and a potential Oscar contender come Spring 2010. Starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, David Wenham, Marion Cotillard, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Billy Crudup and a ton of other great actors.

The film is based on Brian Burrough’s non-fiction book “Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34″ set during the great crime wave of 1933-34, when the government’s attempts to stop Depression-era criminal legends such as John Dillilnger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd transformed J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI into the country’s first federal police force.

Mann wrote the script, based on Burrough’s book and Depp will play John Dillinger, considered the most notorious gangster of the era. Public Enemy is due out in July 2009.
